Production of TechnoNICOL polymer membranes

TechnoNICOL polymer membrane materials

TechnoNICOL polymer membranes are state-of-the-art waterproofing materials which are used in a fundamentally new method of constructing roofs and underground waterproofing. Russian climatic conditions dictate specific quality requirements for waterproofing materials and, in particular, for polymeric membranes. The climate in Europe is milder than in Russia, so there are significant limitations to the use of standard Western materials in Russia.

In 2014, the second extrusion line for PVC membranes was launched at the LOGICROOF plant. The total production capacity is 20 million m² per annum.

Since 2015, LOGICROOF polymeric membranes are also produced at the plant in Turin, Italy. TechnoNICOL is an international manufacturer of waterproofing materials.

Unique TRI-P® technology

LOGICROOF and ECOPLAST polymeric membranes are produced using a unique technology called TRI-P®. The main reason why waterproofing materials age is their exposure to an aggressive environment. The most detrimental impact comes from exposure to ultraviolet light, which results in the destruction of the material. Exposure to UV light results in the destruction of most of the chemical bonds in polymers; the plasticizer becomes separated from the material and evaporates.

Thus, the surface of the material is gradually destroyed, and cracks appear. It is here where protection from UV light is most important for the material. Of course, all modern manufacturers use UV absorbents, which are designed to provide such protection. Only TRI-P® technology implemented at the LOGICROOF plant, however, makes it possible to place the absorbents precisely where they are needed: in the special, protective top layer. This creates a kind of umbrella, a 2-µm thick top layer. This layer also contains special stabilizers which block the migration of plasticizers from the main layers of the membrane.

High-tech plant equipment

The LOGICROOF plant has introduced an electronic system to control the thickness of the protective and waterproofing layers, an optical system to control the surface of the material, guaranteeing zero defects on the surface of polymer membranes.

Every roll of LOGICROOF and ECOPLAST polymeric membranes has individual packaging, which protects the roll from contamination and UV exposure. This is especially important in the context of Russian construction sites, because any contamination in the area of the welded seam may result in poor seam quality.

The LOGICROOF plant has one of the best laboratories in Russia in terms of special equipment and qualified staff. For example, there is a unique plant with cryogenic cooling for testing samples of polymer membranes for impact strength at low temperatures. An artificial aging chamber enables a rapid assessment of membrane longevity, while a hot rolling machine can obtain film samples based on modified formulations, in laboratory conditions. The laboratory is accredited with the Federal Accreditation Service.

International quality control

In addition, our company engages in active cooperation in the quality control of roofing materials with reputable domestic and foreign research organizations. These include CNIIPromzdaniy (Central Scientific Research Institute of Industrial Buildings and Constructions) OJSC, Russia's oldest research institution in industrial construction. CNIIPromzdaniy OJSC tested the membranes for aging and determined sliding coefficients for membranes with an embossed surface.

Our products contain no lead or other components that are not allowed in Europe, which makes them environmentally safe and prevents an adverse impact on the environment.

The LOGICROOF plant holds ISO 9001 international certification, confirming compliance of all production processes to international quality standards.
